Abstract: Fishing is hazardous work that creates casualties to life at sea. The study investigates the rate of accidents reported from different harbours in Kerala.

Of the 132 vessels studied, including mechanised and motorised fishing vessels, 47.72% of vessels reported different accidents at sea during fishing operations. Among types, injuries by handling heavy objects onboard the vessel were reported the highest. Of the total vessels surveyed, only 23.48% of vessels reported zero accident cases.
